This is one of the reasons I haven't worked around this Android bug so far. It's useful for these players to rely on the MediaStore for Playlist management, as this makes playlists accessible to other apps. When this happens, the song IDs that were stored in the playlist are now invalid, so the playlist appears empty. On some devices/ROMs, there seems to be a bug where this process decides to completely discard all existing entries and replace them with new entries. When Android boots (and other times), the Android MediaScanner is run, which looks for files on your device and inserts them into the MediaStore database if required. This is an issue with Android, and the Media Store. Shuttle (and others) don't delete your playlists.
